Knee pain taping with Zoe Russell

Knee pain taping with Zoe Russell

Taping can give your patients immediate relief from patellofemoral, infrapatellar fat pad, proximal tib-fib joint, pes anserine, and patellar tendon pain, and the confidence and ability to perform their rehab without flaring up their pain (Hinman et al. 2003, Kumar et al. 2015, Melo et al. 2018).

Small differences in your assessment findings, tape placement and handling can change whether each technique successfully improves their knee pain.

Which rigid or elastic taping techniques will help your patients’ knee pain as they rehab each of these conditions?

In this presentation, Zoe Russell (Specialist Sports and Exercise Physiotherapist) guides you through five practical knee pain taping techniques, and how to use your assessment findings and patient’s response to guide the application.

You’ll discover:

  • PFP taping
    • How to identify which PFP taping technique is likely to be most effective for each patient.
    • How to adapt your PFP taping to your patient’s response to treatment.
  • Proximal tib-fib joint
    • How to improve patients’ knee pain with anterior or posterior glide mobilisation with movement taping of the proximal tib-fib joint.
  • Patellar tendon
    • How to apply a patellar tendon de-load and reassess its effect on a provocative loading test.
  • Pes anserine
    • How to tape an irritable pes anserine, without unnecessarily restricting knee movement.
  • Infrapatellar fat pad
    • How to apply infrapatellar fat pad taping, and avoid common tape placement errors that increase symptoms.
  • Retesting
    • How to use a relevant movement, muscle contraction or functional test to check the effect of your taping technique.
  • Taping for sport
    • How to secure your taping application when patients are participating in sport.

Follow the demonstrations to develop practical knee taping skills and a clear way to assess whether each technique makes a useful difference for the knee pain patient in front of you.
